David Lagercrantz was born in September 4th 1962 to parents well respected in Swedish academia, his father a publisher as well as a scholar, and his maternal grandfather was Hans Ruin, the Swedish philosopher. He was raised just outside the Swedish capital city of Stockholm, and lived a very much upper-class lifestyle, which he later claimed caused him several problems in his professional career, as his peers were almost polar opposites to him in terms of his upbringing, even though he held many of the left-wing views his contemporaries held.

Lagencrantz headed off to university, and looked to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps by studying philosophy, as well as religion at university. He attended Gothenburg journalism school, where he graduated in the mid ’80s. Upon leaving university, David Lagercrantz went to work for Swedish car-making giant Volvo for their company magazine. Following his time at Volvo, Lagercrantz moved into tabloid journalism with the Expressen newspaper. While at the Expressen newspaper, Lagercrantz covered the crime beat, and was involved in covering many notable murders of the time, for which he earned a reputation in journalism circles.

While David Lagencrantz has achieved success as a journalist, he has also gained success in writing non-fiction books, his first being Ultimate High, which is a biography of the famed mountaineer Goran Kropp. Lagencrantz wrote the biography along with Kropp, and it achieved reasonable success in his home country of Sweden. His biographical success continued, as he was a ghost writer for I Am Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a biography of the famed Swedish footballer.

Following his success in non-fiction, David Lagercrantz also gained success in writing non-fiction, with his breakthrough coming from Fall of Man in Wilmslow, which is a novel based around the life and times of the mathematician Alan Turing. It was a great departure from his other work, but it also brought him to the attention of a global audience.

And with that success, Lagerncrantz was approached to continue the Millennium series of novels, which was started by Stieg Larsson. In August 27th 2015, the fourth book in the Mullennium series, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, was published. Although it is technically published as a stand-alone piece of fiction, Lagencrantz did continue some of the plot lines that Larsson had created in the first three books of the series.

David Lagercrantz is best known as the author of The Millennium series of novels and as a biographer of the rich and famous. Apart from the fourth and fifth books of the Millennium series, he is known for penning, “I am Zlatan Ibrahimovic”, the biography of Sweden’s most accomplished footballer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Even as he had written several Swedish language novels in the early 2000s, his first ever successful novel was “Fall of Man in Wilmslow” that was published in 2009, and went on to become one of the most popular fictionalized biographies ever.
