The Shopaholic series of books is a series written by the novelist Sophie Kinsella, which has brought commercial success for Kinsella, and has spawned a spin-off film starring Isla Fisher. Kinsella vividly captures the tendencies and misfortunes of a female shopaholic as she drifts from one shopping hub to another.

Rebecca also longs to move out of finance journalism, and The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic also deals with her quest to work in a field that interests her more.

The Shopaholic series of books continues the story of Rebacca Bloomwood’s life, as she moves on from her flat in London to live in New York in Shopaholic Abroad (or Shopaholic Takes Manhattan), and then as she marries in Shopaholic Ties the Knot, and then onto he first steps into motherhood in Shopaholic and Baby, and Mini Shopaholic.

The seven book in the series, Shopaholic to the Stars, does not have quite as much life-changing scenarios for Rebecca compared to the previous three books in the series, but it does see her moving to Los Angeles as her husband takes on a new client in the city. Rebecca must try to adjust to live with A-list celebrities and trying to fit in on the red carpet, while also indulging in her shopping habit on Rodeo Drive (where else?). The book Shopaholic to the Stars also draws on the author, Sohpie Kinsella’s time in Hollywood as an advisor on the film made of the Shopaholic series of books.

An aptly titled novel series, Shopaholic is a literary series authored by Sophie Kinsella. Formally known as Madeleine Wickham, Kinsella’s given name was Madeleine Sophie Townley. A quadragenarian, Kinsella was born in December 1969 in London. For her basic education, Kinsella attended Putney-based Putney High School before being admitted to New College, an Oxford University-affiliated institution; at the aforementioned constituent college, Kinsella initially pursued music studies prior to switching to a combination including politics and economics.

Bloomwood is a fun-loving and gutsy woman; just like the then real-life occupation of Kinsella, Bloomwood works at a fictitious magazine called Successful Magazine in the capacity of a financial journalist. She has a romantic affair with a man named Luke Brandon. On the flip side, Bloomwood has compulsive buying disorder; she is poor at managing her income as she channels everything to shopping sprees.

Things move from bad to worse when Bloomwood’s expenses exceed her income and she is up to her eyeballs in debt. Bloomwood resolves to nip her shopping addiction in the bud. Ironically, her self-control over the addiction is in vain, prompting her to seek solace in more and more shopping. All in all, Bloomwood’s relatable obsessive-compulsive disorder is a stark reminder of the dangers of debt cycle in this eye-opening, attention-grabbing book.

In early 2013, Kinsella clinched the Romantic Novelists Association award, in the Romantic Novel of the Year section, thanks to her Shopaholic series. In 2004, Kinsella bagged the RT Reviewers Choice Award, in the Chick Lit Novel category, courtesy of her 2003 book named Can You Keep a Secret? In 2012, Kinsella clinched the All About Romance Reader Award, particularly in the Best Chick Lit category, thanks to her book named I’ve Got Your Number. In 2009, she was the recipient of Glamour Award, in the Writer of the Year category.
