Will Robie works as someone who the government calls on when they encounter a ruthless subject that no one, not even the FBI or any other federal agent can control. To get into this job, he had to sever all ties in his hometown with everyone he knew and loved to start his new job, and he did without issue. Not only is Robie a highly trained sniper, he also has training in close quarters combat. In some of the books, he is joined by Jessica Reel, another agent with the same firm and the pair work together.
The first book to feature the character of Will Robie is The Innocent, which was released in October, 2012 by David Baldacci. The Innocent begins with Will Robie being assigned a mission to eliminate a target in Washington DC. Due to the nature of the job, alarm bells go off in Robie’s mind, as he is not used to doing such jobs in a place so close to home. Against his better judgement, Robie refuses to pull the trigger, and the target escapes unharmed. Robie must now fight to protect his life, uncover the truth behind the mission he was sent to do, and also keep safe a teenage orphan he encounters while evading attempts at his own life. As far as introductions to characters go, The Innocent sets a lot of ground work for the following novels in the Will Robie series.
The next book in the Will Robie series, The Hit, was released only six months after The Innocent, and it continues the tale of Will Robie. This time, however, Robie may have met his match in his next assignment – he must bring in Jessica Reel, an assassin who held a similar post to Robie and who is equally as skilled. However, everything may not be as it appears, and Robie needs to work out who he can trust and whether he’s doing the right thing in pursuit of Reel. Like all good Baldacci thrillers, The Hit is one that keeps you guessing just whose side is the right one until the very end.
The Will Robie series continued with The Target, and was then followed, in 2015 by The Guilty. The Guilty examines the past of Will Robie and what made him into the man he is today. The Guilty is set in the town Robie was born in, back in Mississippi, which is a lifetime away for Robie compared to the life he leads in Washington DC. This is more of a crime thriller than one of Baldacci’s political conspiracies, but it adds to the Will Robie story and fleshes out this contract killer a lot more than the rest of the series has been able to.
BEST WILL ROBIE BOOKS:
For those readers who are looking to get into the “Will Robie” series by David Baldacci, two that would be great to start with are “The Innocent”, “The Hit”, and “The Guilty”.
The Innocent: The first installment in the “Will Robie” series. Will Robie is sent on a mission to assassinate someone but decides not to; which is something new for him, he usually just kills his target and moves on. For one, the hit is to take place in Washington, D.C. But not this time. He is sent on the run after becoming a target for not following the orders of his superiors. When he flees the scene of the would be crime, he finds a young girl in foster care whose parents were murdered and he realizes that she may just be at the center of a larger cover up. He must help her, as it will mean getting to the bottom of the conspiracy that goes to an unimaginable amount of power.
The Hit: The second installment in the series featuring “Will Robie”. A fellow assassin, named Jessica Reel, has started killing her own agents and her handler (she works at the same agency that Robie works at), and Robie is tasked with bringing her in. Dead or alive, it does not matter to them. She is probably one of the few assassins that is on the same talent level as Robie himself. Her attacks, he finds out, are much more complicated than meet the eye. There is much more than just simple killing; it hides something much bigger that could shake the whole U.S. government as well as have repercussions around the world.
The Guilty: The fourth installment in the “Will Robie” series. Will Robie’s father, Dan Robie (an important figure in the town and a judge), has been charged with murder. The pair have not spoken since Will left town and severed ties with everyone from his hometown of Cantrell, Mississippi. That all changes when Will realizes what has happened with his father. Despite his high standing in the town, most think that Dan is guilty. Will Robie, with Jessica Reel to back him up, looks into, against his father’s wishes, whether or not his father is actually guilty or not. Will is now an outsider in this town, and finds that his actions to help his father are met without trust but with violence and skepticism. Robie finds that there is an underbelly to the town that he grew up in, and both Dan and Will must face consequences of choices they made long ago.

What Is The Next Book in The Will Robie Series?
There doesn't seem to be an upcoming book in The Will Robie Series. The newest book is End Game and was released on November, 14th 2017.
I don’t normally read thriller books, but I thought I’d give this series a chance. I started with the first in the series, of course, and it’s the only one I’ve read so far. I’m not in a rush to continue the series, though, and I think this genre just isn’t for me.
The plot twists were incredibly unbelievable, and I get that may be the point, but it was too over the top for me. There were also a lot of characters to keep track of, including a daughter of drug-abusing parents? Seems like some storylines would’ve been better off as a spinoff series.
