W. Michael Gear is an American archeologist turned novelist from Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is best known for the “First North Americans” series of novels that he co-wrote with Kathleen O’Neal Gear. However, Michael has also written twelve more novels under his own name. A graduate of Fort Collins High School, he got his Bachelors and Masters in Archeology from Colorado State University, and for a time worked for Western Wyoming College before establishing his own archeological consulting firm in 1981. He lives in Thermopolis with his co-writer, fellow author, and wife, Kathleen O’Neal Gear.

Michael Gear got hooked into writing when he read a western that drove him insane with its terrible ending. He knew that he could do far much better and within two weeks, he had completed a five hundred page Western, but eight unsold novels later, he could not find a publisher. A couple of weeks after meeting Kathleen, his dream was back on track. He went on to publish twelve Western, Historical, Thriller, and science fiction novels under his own name. He also published over forty religious, young adult, historical, techno-thriller, and pre-historical novels co-written with Kathleen. The novels have been on a host of American and international bestseller lists, and have sold over 15 million copies and been translated into more than 25 languages.

Michael Gear won the 2005 Spur Award for Novel under the Novel of the West category. His novel “Morning River” was a nominee for the National Book Award in 1998, and the Pulitzer Prize in Fiction.

The Warriors of Spider: The novel is a fantastic thriller of a novel that is set far out in humanity’s future.
