The immigrants left Germany after WWII. The youngest child in the family, Pamela was two when her parents settled in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The author’s resume mentions an undergraduate degree in Literature and the Foundation Year Program she pursued at the University of King’s College. She eventually became a lawyer, a member of the Nova Scotia Bar but her studies did not end there.

She added a Master’s Degree in Public Administration to her CV. The years that followed took her all over North America. She was working at an international consulting firm as a strategy consultant.

But she put everything on hold when her first child came into the world. Her local office had also closed. So she chose to stay home to look after her family. This gave her the opportunity to write.

Pamela was eight years old when she started writing. She was already an avid reader and, after a while, she decided to give writing a shot. She was fortunate to have an English teacher in Junior High that encouraged her passion for writing.

But everything changed once she matured. In university, Pamela couldn’t bring herself to commit to fiction writing. The practical side of her personality kept pushing her to take a more pragmatic route. And she eventually did just that, setting her sights on a law degree.

After that, each new stage of her life kept pulling the author further and further away from her writing dreams. But then her baby came into the mix and she chose to stay home to look after him. Initially, Pamela used writing as an outlet.

But once her children started school, she made a conscious decision to give up on her corporate career in favor of pursuing her writing dreams. She never regretted the decision.

Her most popular creation is Kate Lange, a lawyer in her thirties that solves crimes. When she created the character, Pamela Callow was trying to craft a protagonist that had no special crime-solving skills and, thus, had to rely on her wits and courage to see justice done.

Her first Kate Lange novel was well received. This gave Pamela the courage to keep writing. But she also felt a lot of pressure to live up to the hype that her first novel had generated. She eventually learned to manage the expectations that readers and publishers put on writers.

Even though she has a lot of experience to draw from when writing the Kate Lange books, Pamela does quite a bit of research. She digs into everything from forensics and journalism to psychology and criminal procedure.

She will also interview experts in various fields to get a better understanding of the world she wants to describe. While she enjoys what she does, Pamela admits that writing is hard work. It isn’t enough for her to deliver her manuscripts on time. She is also expected to promote her novels and to interact with fans. It requires a lot of time.

Best Pamela Callow Books

Pamela has been compared to the likes of John Grisham and Robin Cook, with some of the best books in her bibliography including:

Damaged: Things are falling apart for Kate Lange. She still can’t escape the shadow of her sister’s death. Her ex-fiance is making harrowing accusations and all she has to keep her afloat is her work at a high-powered law firm.

Kate didn’t think much of a grandmother who wanted her guidance on a private school student. She did what she could to help the old woman. But when the teenager in question was brutally murdered, Kate was forced to wonder whether the advice she had given was to blame.

Unfortunately for Kate, the managing partner at her law firm is thinking the exact same thing. It will take all the strength Kate can muster to protect her reputation.

Indefensible: Elise Vanderzell is dead. She fell from the balcony of her bedroom. And now it looks like Randall Barrett, her husband, and Kate Lange’s boss is going to take the fall. Everyone thinks Randall is guilty and they cannot wait to see him get what he deserves. But Kate has been tasked with defending him and she has no intention of losing.
