In 1981, he finished his studies at the University of Notre Dame, graduating with a degree in Business Administration. In 1982, he joined the FAA. He continued to work as an air traffic controller for decades.
He finally retired from the FAA after 25 years, joining a private company as a contact controller. Some of his followers read the blogs he wrote for Foxsports.com. Though interesting, the experience only succeeded in revealing to the author that he was meant to write fiction.
Leverone was eight when he wrote his first story. The achievement convinced him that he was meant to become a writer. Leverone initially planned to study journalism in college. But he changed tracks after his freshman year.
This compelled the author to drop writing altogether. He stayed away from the habit for three decades. The author’s decision to dip his toes into publishing was unexpected. His desire to write returned with a vengeance and it haunted him until he gave into it.
Fortunately, during his long break from the hobby, Alan Leverone never stopped reading. As a child, he was enamored by the Hardy Boys. They revealed to him the joys that fiction could offer. As he matured, Leverone came across Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The adventures of Sherlock Holmes entranced him.
He eventually read and fell for Stephen King‘s works, gaining a strong admiration for novels like ‘The Stand’ and ‘Salem’s Lot’. As an adult, he read thrillers in the same vein as his own novels, and they influenced the path he took as an author.
Leverone loves losing himself in a story. He anticipates those moments during which the words seem to pour effortlessly from his mind. He has compared it to getting high on alcohol or drugs. He also enjoys hearing from people that have been entertained by his stories and settings.
Leverone admits that, for all its rewards, writing is tedious at times. He has learned that an author cannot succeed without discipline and dedication. He understands the importance of writing even when you don’t feel like it because you have set a goal and you must endeavor to achieve it at all costs.
But the author enjoys every moment of the writing process, even the difficult times. He wants the quality of his work to justify the money that his readers have to spend to buy his books. The fact that the author has a day job means that he has to fit his writing sessions into his relatively busy schedule.
He tries to write as much as he can during his breaks. When Leverone isn’t writing, he spends most of his free time with his wife. The author has adult children that he doesn’t see as often as he would like.
Allan Leverone Awards
Leverone won the Derringer Award in 2012. He was nominated for the Pushcart Award in 2011.

Parallax View: Tracie Tanner was quite confident in her abilities as a CIA agent. She was tasked with transporting a secret communique that Mikhail Gorbachev wanted President Reagan to receive, and after escaping East Germany with the document, Tracie was certain that she couldn’t fail.
