Nalini Singh is an author from New Zealand that writes paranormal romance. Nalini, who can speak three languages (Hindi, Japanese, and English) had an interesting upbringing. Born in 1977, she originates from Fiji. This is where she was born.

However, at the age of ten, she moved to New Zealand, which became her home. Her work took her to Japan for three years and she also toured Asia for a while. But she found her way back to New Zealand, which is why she is categorized as a New Zealand author.

Nalini, who has a lot of fans in Germany and the US, attended Mt Roskill Grammar School and Auckland University. Life in Auckland had a strong impact on the author’s novels. The city’s diversity allowed Nalini to interact with people from various cultures, which is why her books are filled with characters from so many unique backgrounds.

She wrote her first novel and sent it out. For her efforts, she was rewarded with a litany of rejection letters that she chose to keep rather than discarding. For a time, she worked at a family-owned Candy factory.

This kept her financially afloat in university. Following her graduation, she became a junior lawyer. Life in the legal field was somewhat challenging because she spent her days reading briefs and her nights writing romance novels.

The author is thankful for the Silhouette Desire editor who took a chance on her first book, pulling it out of the pile and eventually publishing it under the ‘Desert Warrior’ title in 2002. Nalini Singh was just 25 at the time.

She tried to juggle her writing and her full-time job. The experience taught her to prioritize her time. Rather than looking for conducive moments to write, Nalini learned to use every single free second that came her way to pen her stories.

She eventually left the legal field to become a full-time writer. Though her law degree had taught her to think rationally and the skill helped her once she realized how much work she was expected to inject into her publishing career.
