She was always drawn to romance, though she cannot explain why. As an author, she has attempted to write stories in different genres but her work always gravitates back to romance. Clare was just 13 when she attempted to write her first novel.

By fifteen, she had submitted a manuscript to Harlequin. They rejected it. Clare felt terrible. But she refused to abandon her love for writing. Instead, she contributed her talents to cooking blogs and research pieces.

At 17, the author met her husband. The pair spent a decade living and traveling together before finally getting married. Clare believes that she was fortunate to find her husband. She knows that many couples that meet at a young age eventually grow apart.

But that wasn’t the case for Clare. She found that the years only strengthened her bond with her partner. It did not take long for her new family to grow. Once her toddlers entered the picture, she was forced to abandon full-time work.

This gave Clare the opportunity to give her writing dreams another go. Despite the challenges that her young children presented, she completed another manuscript. Clare wasn’t all that confident when she submitted it to Mills and Boon.

However, it took them six months to send her the rejection letter. This worked in Clare’s favor. By then, she had already started another novel, and she was so engrossed in the story she was telling that the rejection didn’t hurt as much.

Though, she did not completely dismiss it. Clare had abandoned full-time work because she had young children that needed her attention. However, as her daughter approached the age of one, the author knew that she had to start contemplating the notion of going back to work. But once she started working, she wouldn’t have the time to write.

This placed her in a bind. The idea of self-publishing came from her sister and husband. Self-publishing was all the rage in 2014, and after thinking it over, Clare realized that there was little point in waiting for a publisher to accept her manuscript when she could just take it directly to her audience.

So she pulled the trigger. She uploaded her manuscript to Amazon and published it. The success she eventually received started as a trickle. First, Clare was shocked to learn that she had sold her first copy within ten minutes of publishing it on Amazon.

Then, after a while, she realized that she was selling an estimated 30 copies a day. By this time, she couldn’t deny the fact that she had become an indie author. If that wasn’t enough, Clare attended the Romance Writers of Australia Conference in 2016 where she met Jo Grant. After a conversation with the executive, Clare landed a Mills and Boon contract, achieving a dream she had spent her entire life chasing.
