Sherrilyn Kenyon is a bestselling author from the United States that has written novels using the ‘Kinley MacGregor’ pen name. Born in 1965 in Columbus, Georgia, Sherrilyn was just seven when she wrote and self-published her first novel.

After publishing an essay in a local newspaper in third grade and finally making a sale at 14, no one could dissuade Sherrilyn from the notion that she was destined to pursue a career in writing and publishing.

The author couldn’t stop writing. Some of her teachers thought she was taking notes. They did not realize that Sherrilyn spent her classes daydreaming. The school newspaper gave the author a temporary outlet for her creativity.

She was also friends with a fellow that managed an SF/F magazine during her college years. Sherrilyn was all set to begin her journey in publishing. Even at the tender age of 20, she had a decent resume that included numerous submissions to magazines.

She went so far as to write a manuscript to completion. But before she could take action, her older brother died. The two were close, and his death devastated Sherrilyn.

She is grateful to her husband, who she married three years later. He helped the author on her journey to recovery. He also reminded Sherrilyn of the passion she had for storytelling.

But his encouragement was not enough to re-ignite her interest in writing. The author could have easily buried her publishing dreams. But then her life took a turn for the worst. After joining her husband in Richmond, Sherrilyn tried and failed to find a job.

The couple was painfully poor, and the author was determined to chip in. When a childhood friend, and editor at a magazine, asked her to submit some articles, she jumped at the chance.

Sherrilyn found her husband’s typewriter and started penning the first article. Before long, her imagination came to life and the fictional characters that had plagued the author during her childhood, keeping her company, came back with a vengeance.

The author was overcome with joy. She realized that God had placed her on earth to tell stories. Her husband bought the Brother wordprocessor Sherrilyn used to write her first novel.

It took the author two years to sell the manuscript. The meager paycheck she got paid for a desk. By the time her third book landed on bookshelves, she had enough money to buy a computer.

Sherrilyn’s career was hardly smooth sailing. Even after adding several bestsellers to her record and winning awards, she went through a difficult period where she couldn’t land a contract.

Things went downhill when she fell pregnant and the medical bills mounted. But the author persevered, created the Kinley MacGregor pen name, and gave her career the injection of energy it needed.
