Born on 6 October 1958, Joseph Finder is an American best-selling thriller writer best known for his books such as Company Man, Paranoia, Power Play and Killer Instinct. Though he was born in Chicago, Illinois, Joseph Finder spent his childhood in the Philippines and Afghanistan before his family shifted back to the United States.

While at Yale University, he majored in Russian Studies. He graduated with a master’s degree from Harvard Russian Center and later years taught on the Harvard faculty. Joseph Finder currently lives in Boston, Massachusetts together with his wife Michelle and their only daughter Emma. Finder is among the founding members if the International Thriller Writers Association, and a key participant of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers. He also writes International affairs and espionage for publications including The Washington Post and the New York Times.

Joseph Finder first novel was The Moscow Club, published in 1991, based on a KGB coup conducted against Mikhail Gorbachev, the leader of the Soviet Union. His second novel is the Extraordinary Powers, published in 1994 and based on the discovery of a Soviet mole among the highest ranks of the CIA.

Paranoia (2004) and Company Man (2005) were listed as the New York bestselling in both paperback and hardcover respectively. In 2007, Killer Instinct, published in 2006 won the International Thriller Writers Award for being the best novel in 2007. Power Play was nominated for a Gumshoe Award, while Vanished was nominated for International Thriller Writers Award in 2010. Buried Secrets, the second Nick Heller series by Joseph Finder won the 2011 Strand Magazine Critics Award.

JOSEPH FINDER BOOKS INTO MOVIES/TV

High Crimes novel was adapted for the big screen for a film by the same name. The film features popular television stars such as Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd. The film was initially released on 3rd April 2002 and was directed by Carl Franklin. It is based on a story of a successful lawyer (Ashley Judd) who is shocked when she finds out that her husband has a hidden past as a military operative. She joins forces with (Morgan Freeman)- a retired military attorney who does not play by anyone rules to defend her husband in a court of law.

High Crimes made a decent profit at the box office, grossing $63.8 million against a $42 million budget. The reviews were middling, but top reviewer Roger Ebert gave it three out of four stars and said “High Crimes works to keep us involved and make us care.” For his role in High Crimes, Morgan Freeman was nominated for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture. He ultimately ended up losing to Denzel Washington for his role in John Q.

In 2013, Paranoia was made into a film and stars famous actors such as Garry Oldman, Harrison Ford, and Liam Hemsworth. Despite the high profile cast, this movie ultimately flopped at the box office and was considered one of the biggest bombs of the year. Negative reviews didn’t do it any favors either as the movie has just a 3.8/10 on Rotten Tomatoes.

Paranoia: Adam works as a product manager at Wyatt Telecom. The moment his best friend retires, Adam parrots the Vice President for Corporate occasion and goes ahead to place meals order to cater a lunch to (or “intending to”) revenge on what they did to him during the Salesman of the Year celebration. The event continues until past midnight, and that is when a security guard notices the band still playing.

This superb thriller novel captures the reader’s attention due to the appealing nature of the central protagonist.

Power Play: Joseph Finder does it again. The power play is a book featuring the Jake Landry as the central character. Jake is a junior executive at the Hammond Aerospace Corporation. He is described as a modest and taciturn lad.

Jake is thrown to a remote lodge with all the top officer of the Hammond Aerospace Corporation. He feels a bit uncomfortable and the only person he knows there is his ex-girlfriend, the CEO’s assistant.

A group of backwoods hunters crashes the festivities, and the executives find themselves held hostages by the armed men who are willing to do anything to get the best ransom they can. Cut from the rest of the world, the executives only hope for survival depends on Jake the only person who can save them.

Killer Instinct: The 2013 International Thriller Writers award winner for best novel, Killer Instinct is one of Joseph Finder’s best books. This book features a highly relatable tale of a guy named Jason working for an electronics giant who doesn’t have the “killer instinct” to move up to the top of the corporate ladder.

Of course, the relatables end there as he gets a former Special Forces a job to play on the company softball team as he was once drafted to the majors. Things get awry when good things start to happen for Jason, but bad things start happening to other people he considers to be rivaled. His career is taking off, but he knows something isn’t right and more than his career at stake.
