C.D. Reiss is an American USA Today and Amazon bestseller that writes romance novels. Reiss’ career had a challenging start. Like most authors, she would have preferred to secure an agent soon after she began writing in 1992.

But the hundreds of queries she submitted bore little fruit. Every agent she approached turned her away. Things got even worse when a screenwriting school rejected her. The author only persevered because she hated the idea of people telling her what to do. The publishing industry kept insisting that it had no place for her, but Reiss wouldn’t take no for an answer.

She was determined to write more books because fiction was her only creative outlet. Her fortunes began to change when she enrolled at USC to study screenwriting. Reiss eventually graduated with a Master’s degree in 2003.

When her son came along, Reiss went back into the workforce. However, she had no intention of accepting defeat. The author continued to write novels and screenplays. She made numerous submissions, hoping that a publisher would come along and give her the shot she needed.

They did well enough. But Reiss’s career was hardly thriving. She blames a friend for changing everything by encouraging her to write short, sexy, cheap, serialized novels. The author put the advice into action and enjoyed the process so much that she kept doing it.
