Fern Michaels is a pen name for Mary Ruth Kuczkir. She was born in 1933 in Pennsylvania. When she got married and had her youngest child join school, her husband suggested that she gets a job to do. Having no job, she decided to write a book. Her husband was upset with her choices and they eventually separated. It could be said that Michaels succeeded in writing at the expense of her marriage. Currently, she lives in Summerville, South Carolina.

Fern Michaels has been active in giving to the society. She founded the Fern Michaels Foundation which has played a critical role in giving deserving students scholarships. She has also funded a number of day-care centers which offer services to single mothers at an affordable rate.

Michaels style of writing is unique and has made an immense contribution to literature. She has stated that she loves breathing life into her characters. She has also stated that she loves writing about women who have gone through a difficult life but have prevailed amidst such difficult circumstances. Weekend Warriors (2003): Unlike the traditional romance books of Fern Michaels, the Weekend Warriors takes a radical departure to a life that is motivated and controlled by anger and revenge. The book tells a story of a group of women who had injustices done on them, and they decided to fight for justice rather than being passive.

The seven women contemplate their predicament and form a loose alliance to seek justice. The book is far from romance. The women do not see material things as their motivation.
