The gamble paid off because Robinson is a bestselling author with fans from all over the world. While he has written nonfiction, readers know him primarily for his naval thrillers which explore the numerous crises plaguing the 21st century.
Even though he was born in Oxford, the author calls Dublin, Ireland his home, although he always abandons Ireland for Cape Cod in the summer.
Robinson’s journey as a fiction writer isn’t nearly as straightforward as people think. He joined the journalism field at 17, working as a sportswriter for a while before adding his voice to a society column in the Daily Express.
After deciding to experiment with publishing outside the confines of journalism, Robinson wrote so-called coffee table books about thoroughbred horse racing. He may have maintained that trajectory if John Bertrand hadn’t come along.
The Australian Helsmann was best known for his activities in the 1983 America’s Cup. He wanted Robinson to write his novel.
The author was new to the ghostwriting arena but he was determined to do his best. He was shocked when ‘Born to Win’ became a bestseller in Australia. But that wasn’t enough to tempt him to write the Naval thrillers for which he is best known.
That particular development occurred when he ghost-wrote Adm. John Woodward’s book. Penning ‘One Hundred Days’ triggered something in Robinson. His desire to write stories about Navy SEALs blossomed and he fed it.
Since those early days, the author has added numerous Naval thrillers to his bibliography and many have become national bestsellers.
Patrick Robinson Books Into Movies
Robinson co-wrote ‘Lone Survivor’ with Marcus Luttrell. The nonfiction book recounts a mission in which Luttrell’s unit encountered dozens of violent Taliban fighters. Luttrell was the only survivor.
Sixteen additional soldiers sent to rescue the unit also died. Luttrell lived to see another day because some Pashtun villagers hid him in their homes.
Universal Pictures turned the book into a live-action film called ‘Lone Survivor,’ starring Mark Wahlberg.
Best Patrick Robinson Books
Besides writing engaging military fiction, the author is a motivational speaker represented by his son’s company. He routinely adds his voice to conversations about Geo-Political issues. Robinson’s best books include:
Nimitz Class: The U.S. was confident in its military might. After all, their resources included the most powerful warship ever built. The U.S. Nimitz Class aircraft carrier could take on anything.
That confidence was shaken when the unthinkable happened. The USS Thomas Jefferson disappeared and no one could explain why. With no survivors to speak of and the clues pointing strongly to an accident, the Pentagon was scrambling for answers.
Was the sea hiding a rogue submarine with nuclear warheads? And if it was, who sent it? Was the U.S. facing a foreign nation or a small contingent of disgruntled naval officers?
How could a threat of that nature get within striking distance of their warship unless it was a friendly submarine? Was the strike an isolated incident or the first of many?
The U.S. would pay a hefty price unless the Pentagon’s team answered those questions and more.
‘Nimitz Class’ is Patrick Robinson’s first naval thriller. The author tells this story from the perspective of the offenders (who destroyed a U.S. warship) and the team working behind the scenes to find them. Robinson uses a third-person omniscient POV.
H.M.S. Unseen: The H.M.S Unseen was too powerful for anyone to stop. So naturally, Arnold Morgan panicked when it suddenly disappeared during a training mission. Unfortunately for the National Security Adviser, the missing weapon was the least of his worries.
Soon after the disappearance, planes began to explode. Morgan was convinced that a dead terrorist spy, and his archenemy, was to blame. But what hope did he have of stopping a man he couldn’t even find?
The madman was armed with a submarine hiding within an enormous ocean and he was far from done. Before their game of cat and mouse ended, Morgan and his nemesis would finally come face to face.
