Anna Jacobs is an English author that writes romance, sagas, historical, and general fiction. Jacobs is a native of Rochdale, Lancashire, where she was born in 1941. But she eventually made Australia her home.

The novelist travels back and forth between England and Australia with her husband because the couple has friends and family in both countries. Jacobs attributes their ability to maintain homes in Australia and England to several years of hard work.

That hard work has not stopped. Anna Jacobs writes three novels a year, which is no easy task. Although, her disciplined attitude doesn’t extend to domestic chores. The author was not built to maintain a home.

She hates washing, ironing, cooking, and other exhausting chores because they take the author away from her manuscripts. First of all, she doesn’t see the point of ironing a piece of clothing that will only get crumpled when someone wears it.

Secondly, she has developed so many food intolerances that cooking has lost its appeal. She can’t taste or eat the meals she would typically make. As such, Jacobs prefers to leave her domestic chores in the hands of an expert while she hangs out with her husband.

Writing is not the only activity that occupies Jacobs’ days. Arthritis won’t let her experiment with embroidering. So she watches TV, specifically educational programs such as antique shows.

Additionally, several health scares (that included a bout of chronic fatigue syndrome and an encounter with fibromyalgia) encouraged Jacobs’ obsession with nutrition and health. She takes every step her body allows to remain in tip-top shape, even if it means walking on a treadmill daily.

But these distractions do not prevent Jacobs from meeting her deadlines. She writes on most days. Jacobs is awake by 5:30 am. She starts by answering emails, taking breakfast, and showering.

Then she settles down in her office and spends the morning and early afternoon writing. The novelist puts her manuscript away once the sun goes down. She prefers to spend evenings with her husband.

The author started writing when Georgette Heyer died, and Jacobs decided to pen regency romance novels that replicated her style. Even though she published two of them, it took Jacobs a while to discover her voice.

The novelist has no formal writing training, but she went back to university to study history because she thought it would aid her in producing compelling historical fiction. She did not make that decision lightly.

Jacobs said she was done with formal education after getting her Master of Business degree. But she made an exception for her writing career.

Jacobs learned most of what she knows about publishing by reading how-to books. She doesn’t believe she lost anything because she never studied writing in a formal setting.
