‘Something From Tiffany’s’, one of Melissa’s novels, dominated the bestseller charts for five solid weeks. She decided to collaborate with her husband under the ‘Casey Hill’ pen name because she wanted to explore the darker side of humanity.
After writing sweet and lighthearted romance for so many years, she was finally ready to dip her toes into the gritty waters of crime fiction. Their debut novel (Taboo) was a hit.
It introduced readers to Reilly Steel, an Irish-American investigator that left California for Dublin to care for her father whilst also running Dublin’s forensic unit.
Casey Hill Books into Movies
Ecosse Films, a production company from the UK, optioned the TV rights to ‘Taboo’. The goal was to turn the book into a series following the adventures of an American-born investigator that has to use her Quantico training to keep Dublin’s state-of-the-art forensic lab afloat.
Steel, the investigator in question, was expected to join forces with Chris Marshal, a homicide detective with a mysterious illness.
Best Casey Hill Books
The author has been praised for the break-neck pace of his stories. Hill’s best books include:
Taboo: Reilly Steel was trained by the FBI. But she is plying her trade in Dublin as of late, adding her talents to a new forensic unit. Their first major test takes the form of a couple whose remains were found in an upscale apartment.
It doesn’t take Steel long to realize that they have a serial killer on their hands. Assisted by Pete Kennedy and Chris Delaney, Steel must decipher the pattern in the killer’s actions before he strikes again.
But finding the culprit is easier said than done. From what Steel can tell, their target is not only intelligent but completely in control. Despite their best efforts, he is always one step ahead.
Unfortunately for him, Steel is far from conventional. Her methods are unorthodox and they will give her unit the advantage it needs to catch the killer. But the killer has no intention of sitting back and waiting for Steel to catch him.
The body count is steadily rising. But that isn’t the detective’s only concern. It looks like Steel has drawn the attention of the killer.
Like most Casey Hill books, this one goes to great lengths to show why Steel is so superior to her colleagues. The smart and damaged heroine carries the novel with her charm and wit.
Victim: Reilly Steel trusts her training. Her skills as a forensic investigator have never disappointed her. But her most recent case will put everything Steel thought she knew to the test.
Her unit is chasing a particularly violent killer. But the crime scenes are not as forthcoming as Steel would like. The little she has seen so far suggests that the culprit has a thorough understanding of forensic science, which means that finding him will present a significant challenge.
The third murder has made things even worse because it is not only graphic but surprisingly elaborate. Steel is hopeful. She wants to believe that this third crime scene will prove to be the killer’s undoing because it has revealed the blueprint guiding his actions.
But they haven’t yet identified his next victim or the purpose of his crimes. And until they do, people will continue to die.
‘Victim’ is the second novel in the CSI Reilly Steel series and it will test the tolerance of Casey Hill’s fans because some of the descriptions are quite shocking. The first victim in the story is found, drowned, in a septic tank.
The second victim died even more horrifically. These violent scenes make sense because they justify the panic that eventually engulfs Dublin. The news takes to calling the killer ‘The Punisher’ and no one knows who he will attack next.
Steel is still trying to bring the Garda Forensic Unit up to speed. They have some understanding of forensic science but their procedures are out of date. Steel is smart and strong-willed and she refuses to buckle under the weight of her responsibilities.
