Eventually, the author began concocting simple stories in her head. She took great pleasure in crafting fantasy worlds and inhabiting them. Cathy knew these worlds were fiction, but they felt real to her.

In school, Cathy realized that writing as a whole did not necessarily appeal to her. For instance, she disliked the formal writing she was expected to do in secondary school. Instead, she gravitated toward assignments that compelled her to use her imagination.

Surprisingly, it never occurred to Cathy to pursue writing as a career. She grew up in an era where the notion of doing something you loved as a career seemed improbable. As a student, she had no aspirations. She couldn’t figure out what she wanted to do for the rest of her life.

The author selected science on her college application form (along with journalism and law) because her brother was doing science. But when it was offered to her, Cathy turned it down because it wasn’t her cup of tea. She was tempted to pursue law, but that meant repeating her exams to secure the relevant points.

Before she could take that drastic step, a journalism interview came along and derailed her. She acquired a certificate after two years and landed a position as a news reporter at The Sunday World. At the time, she had no idea that journalism would prepare her for a life as a storyteller.

Cathy’s superiors would often assign her the abuse and prostitution stories because of the author’s soft and empathetic personality. Her stint as an agony aunt was particularly educational.

In her own words, it gave her a Ph.D. in human behavior, connecting the author to wounded souls desperately searching for a listening ear. She doesn’t use their stories in her books. However, the lessons they taught her about human beings influence the characters she creates.

When she wrote her first book at 27, Cathy had no publishing ambitions. She just wanted to put her ideas on paper. So she bought a computer, sat at her dining table, and wrote night after night until she ignited an unquenchable passion for storytelling.

She wrote half a manuscript before submitting her work to a publisher. To her surprise, she landed a publishing deal. ‘Woman to Woman,’ her debut novel, was an immediate success, dominating the bestseller list for eight weeks.

The Year That Changed Everything: Three women share more than a birthday. Their lives are seemingly going from bad to worse. Ginger is thirty, and her life is falling apart. A curvy woman struggling with her weight, Ginger thought she could always lean on her friends.

But then she attended a wedding as a bridesmaid and overheard a conversation among her friends that revealed what they really thought of her.

Meanwhile, Sam’s dreams were coming true. After several challenging years, the woman had finally fallen pregnant. But on her fortieth birthday, when her water broke, Sam was overwhelmed by doubt. How would she raise her child when she knew next to nothing about being a mother?

For Callie, her husband’s attitude was the least of her worries. Callie and Jason grew up poor. As such, Jason took every opportunity to boast about his accumulated wealth, which is why he had chosen to throw a lavish party for her 50th birthday as opposed to the intimate dinner she preferred. The last thing she expected on her birthday was for the police to turn up.

Someone Like You: Hannah, Emma, and Leonie were three young women fighting to navigate the complexities of adulthood. Hannah was beautiful, but a lover’s betrayal had compelled her to embrace singlehood.

Emma had two years of marriage under her belt, and she wanted to start a family. However, she doubted her ability to raise children.

Meanwhile, Leonie was the kindest woman Hannah and Emma had ever met. But with three teenagers in tow, what hope did she have of finding love?
