Hoover was born in 1979 in Sulphur Springs, Texas but she spent her childhood in Saltillo, also Texas. The author attended Saltillo High School and Texas A&M Commerce from where she got her social work degree.

Hoover spent a few years doing social work before she decided to dedicate her time to her publishing goals. She also did some teaching jobs. ‘Slammed’ was her debut novel. She got the inspiration for the story from a song called ‘Head Full of Doubt’ by the Avett Brothers. She incorporated the lyrics into the book.

Hoover had no idea what to expect from the novel. Her big break came when a major blogger reviewed ‘Slammed’, giving it the attention it needed to become a New York Times Bestseller. The sequel did just as well.

The success of her debut novel caught Hoover off guard because she had primarily written it for fun. When the sales for ‘Slammed’ skyrocketed, it had a significant impact on the author’s existence.

Hoover’s life had always been chaotic. She met her future husband at the age of 16. She married him four years later. The author was still in college when their three children came along. She had initially set out to pursue journalism.

Even though Hoover and her husband were working full-time, the family was living in a mobile home. She knew that she had to target a practical career that would enable her to graduate and start working as soon as possible. She had to support her children.

This led Hoover to social work. When she finally sat down to write her first story, she had no intention of submitting it to an agent. She just wanted to experiment with the ideas bubbling in her head. However, once she allowed her friends and family to read the first few chapters, not only did they like her work but they demanded more.

Her boss was so engrossed in her story that she would often lock Hoover in her office so that the author could write the next chapter in her story while her boss dealt with Hoover’s clients. Hoover was so flattered by the attention her manuscript was getting that it encouraged her to write her first novel to completion.

But even when the manuscript was finished, she did not expect it to make any money. As such, it came as quite a shock for the author to learn that ‘Slammed’ had become a bestseller. She was even more surprised to learn that the novel had made her enough money in a single week to support her family for the next 12 months.

Interestingly enough, even though her debut novel had exceeded expectations, Hoover was hesitant to call herself an author. She was also unwilling to trust that her success would continue, not when it had come about so quickly. It took Colleen Hoover a while to come to terms with the fact that she had broken into the publishing industry.

But Ryle’s hostile response to the notion of a relationship made very little sense to Lily. The sudden appearance of Atlas, Lily’s first love, only served to complicate matters.

Hopeless: Sky and Dean were kindred spirits. Dean captivated Sky in ways she could not explain. But she knew enough to avoid him. In fact, she was determined to keep him at a distance.
