Diana Palmer is an American author that writes romance novels. She was born in 1946 in Cuthbert, Georgia, to Maggie Eloise Cliatt and William Olin Spaeth. A graduate of Chamblee High School, the author spent her childhood in Chamblee with her younger sister.

An avid fan of Zane Grey’s books, she eventually met and married James Edward Kyle. Palmer took a gamble at 45 when she decided to return to college. James inspired her to take the plunge when he decided to pursue computer programming later in life, an undertaking that compelled him to quit his job.

The gamble paid off when Pamer graduated from Piedmont College, Demorest. Despite her age, the author, who majored in history, secured a spot on the Nation Dean’s List, proving to her naysayers that it was never too late to achieve one’s ambitions.

She took things even further by enrolling at California State University. Palmer wanted a master’s degree in history. But writing is still her primary passion. The author began her writing career in journalism, contributing her skills to publications like Tri-County Advertiser.

Palmer, whose real name is Susan Kyle, introduced the ‘Diana Palmer’ pen name in 1979 to sell romance novels. She used the name to write and publish fiction for nearly three decades. Although, she also experimented with other pseudonyms, including variations of her married name.

But ‘Diana Palmer’ is her primary pen name. She uses the moniker to write and publish most of her books. The author has written over a hundred books in the years since she kickstarted her publishing career.

Palmer has garnered a reputation for writing thrilling love stories littered with strong but tender-hearted cowboys. The author blames Zane Grey for her obsession with Western romances.

She developed an obsession with cowboys during her childhood. Palmer continued to nurture that love during her teenage and young adult years by dabbling in the Western romance genre, both as a reader and a writer.

She has visited Texas on numerous occasions and found that its people are as kind as the cowboys she writes about in her stories. The author is unlikely to abandon romance because writing stories set in the genre fills her with joy.

This is why Palmer has written so many books, but each one is captivating. Every time she sits down to write a new story, Palmer feels like a new author writing for the first time. She always gets so caught up in the adventures and romances her characters must undertake that she forgets the time.
