Frank E. Peretti is an American author that writes inspirational fiction. Born in 1951 in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, the bestseller spent his childhood in Seattle, Washington. Peretti knew he was destined for a career in publishing because he had a reputation for gathering the children in his neighborhood and telling them stories.

The author experimented with music for a while, going so far as to join a bluegrass group after graduating high school. But the demands of adulthood pulled him away.

He got married and then joined UCLA (English, Screenwriting, Film). His father was a pastor at a church, and Peretti eventually came on board to assist the man. Although, he left his pastoring responsibilities in 1983 to do construction jobs because he needed the money.

The author’s first foray into publishing took the form of ‘The Door in the Dragon’s Throat,’ a children’s adventure story that came out in 1985. But it wasn’t until he wrote ‘This Present Darkness’ that people took note of his talents.

The book, which was published in 1986, had a slow start. But once Amy Grant (singer) promoted the novel, it exploded in popularity, selling millions of copies in local and international markets.

Peretti did not keep his newfound following of readers waiting. He released the sequel a few years later (Piercing the Darkness), and it found similar success, selling a whopping 3.5 million copies.

By the 1990s, the author was a full-time writer. He has spent the last few decades churning out bestsellers. Peretti surprised people in 2000 when he temporarily abandoned fiction to write and release ‘The Wounded Spirit,’ a memoir.

The book pushed all the right buttons because it explored the author’s childhood, specifically his battle with cystic hygroma. The face tumor was the bane of his existence. It made Peretti the target of many cruel jokes until a series of surgeries resolved the problem.

The author has used his experiences to write books that tackle bullying. His popularity has persisted because consumers appreciate the emphasis he places on spiritual warfare.
