Jaci Burton is an American New York Times and USA Today bestseller who writes paranormal and suspenseful romance novels. Writing was not her first love. As a child, she wanted to pursue teaching.

She remembers going to her friend’s basement and simulating this dream. They would arrange desks to make a makeshift classroom and write on index cards, which rocked Jaci’s world because she loves making lists.

When her interest in teaching faded, Jaci made nursing her next obsession. The author and her friend replaced school desks and index cards with stethoscopes and medical books. But then she went into her early teens, and everything changed.

The author fell in love with a gorgeous cowboy on a Western show. The TV show stuck with her because she would write and exchange scripts for the show with a cousin. This marked her official foray into writing.

She had such a great time putting her stories on paper that Jaci couldn’t imagine doing anything else with her life. But then marriage and work entered the picture, and the writing took a backseat.

Even after developing a voracious appetite for the romance genre, Jaci couldn’t find the time to write. Her days were filled with soccer practice, high school musicals, and chores. Every so often, she would put pen to paper and carve out a few stories, but she couldn’t commit to the hobby.

Her big break came when the author’s kids grew up and left the nest. Then, she married her second husband, a biker who discovered her love for writing and encouraged her to give the activity a serious go.

Jaci acquiesced and quickly finished her first manuscript. While she was proud of the novel, the author tried and failed to sell it. But rather than giving up, she wrote another one. This one also failed to secure a publisher. So Jaci went back to the drawing board and wrote another manuscript.

It took a while, but the author persevered until she sold her first novel. This paved the way for additional successes. Now, she writes full-time. Jaci cannot believe she turned her dream into a reality.

She spends her days penning stories about sexy heroes and the capable heroines they must tame. The author enjoys writing about small towns because she lives in one and appreciates the nice, warm people and their traditions.

She has written books set in big cities on previous occasions. But she prefers small towns because of their intimate environment. Although, that won’t stop her from writing about metropolitan settings if she stumbles across an entertaining concept for a story.

Jaci doesn’t look for ideas. They pop into her head without warning. This happens a lot when she’s in the shower. In one particular case, she was taking a bath when the plotline and the entire second half of a book came to her. The author is thankful for her overactive imagination.

The only downside of her so-called shower excursions is that she doesn’t have any tools on hand to jot down her ideas.
