Some people might also know her for the work she did as a freelance journalist. Her short stories have appeared in various anthologies, growing her fame in certain circles of the literary arena. People who came across her work during the earliest portions of her career probably don’t know that they read Michaela Thompson’s novels. This is because her first few books were written under the ‘Mickey Friedman’ pseudonym.

Best Michaela Thompson Books

Michaela’s love for mystery was ignited when she was young: she couldn’t get over the fact that all the books had a similar structure and yet the genre was so endlessly flexible. This encouraged her to contribute her own stories to this arena, with some of the best books in her bibliography including:

Magic Mirror: Georgia Lee Maxwell wasn’t necessarily thrilled at the change. Florida was her home and she knew that it would take her a while to acclimate to life in Paris. But she also had plenty of reasons to be optimistic. First of all, she wouldn’t have to put up with her no-good man anymore.

Secondly, she was finally escaping her job as a society editor which she had never quite appreciated. More importantly, she was certain that life as a correspondent in Paris would bring far more thrills than anything she had ever encountered back home.

Hers was a journalist’s dream post. And yet things did not get off to a great start. First of all, Paris was in the midst of a freezing downpour when she arrived. Then she got stranded in horrific traffic jam resulting from a bomb scare of all things.

Thirdly, her apartment wasn’t quite what she expected. In fact, she wasn’t afraid to admit that she hated it. To top it all off, she found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time when armed robbers assaulted a museum she was visiting.

She escaped with her life, though the security guard wasn’t as lucky. All told, the journalist had plenty of reasons to be miserable. But she now had a mystery on her hands. The robbers were quite enthusiastic in their attack. And yet, despite shooting a guard dead, they only took a mirror, showing absolutely no interest in the other treasures on display.

That couldn’t be a coincidence. Yes, the mirror once belonged to Nostradamus, the French seer but Georgia wasn’t ready to accept that its prophetic powers where real. However, she also had to assume that the thieves probably knew some secret that had escaped the public.

Temporary Ghost: Vivien Howard is a suspected murderess. The widow was married to a New York Financier before she supposedly killed him. The police couldn’t find enough evidence to charge her with the crime. None of this mattered to Georgia Lee Maxwell, not at first.

But then she learned that she had been hired to write Vivien’s memoir. The suspected murderess was finally ready to tell all. So Georgia left Paris for Provence in the hopes of uncovering a juicy scoop. She did not expect to find herself in a renovated farmhouse filled with the most suspicious people she had ever met, including Vivien’s artist lover, her daughter, and a housekeeper.

It did not take Georgia long to realize that Vivien wasn’t quite as interested in writing the memoir as the journalist had expected. When she started receiving threatening letters, Georgia realized that she had become a crucial player in a dangerous game, one that she did not yet understand.

Riptide: When the aunt who raised her suffers a grave injury, Isabel Anders, a New York artist is called back home. Things in St. Elmo are hardly inviting. The family mansion has become an eyesore. Isabel’s teenage love is exactly where she left him. But now he has a reason to hate her. He has also gathered a dangerous group of friends around him.

When Isabel’s aunt, who was getting better, dies under mysterious circumstances, Isabel can’t help but suspect murder. To find her killer, Isabel must unravel a web of lies that is several generations old.
