As an adult, she gravitated towards administrative and receptionist roles because she couldn’t think of any other career to pursue. She blames Wattpad for introducing her to the wonderful world of storytelling.

She was browsing the app store when she came across Wattpad. Initially, she downloaded the app to read other people’s stories. But as time passed, Natasha’s desire to experiment with fiction grew.

So she sat down, wrote some chapters, and uploaded them. She appreciates Wattpad for introducing her to new people, many of whom share her passion for the written word. One particular individual (Kirsty Moseley) had self-published her first book.

She encouraged Natasha to do the same. Natasha obliged unaware that her self-published novel would pique the interest of Sourcebooks in the United States. They bought ‘The Cellar’ and released it to the world.

The author has written numerous novels since those early days. However, her writing process has yet to improve. Natasha is messy. She envies writers who can pen a story from beginning to end.

Her approach is chaotic. Sometimes, she starts with the most interesting bits in the middle before jumping to the end, and then backtracking to the beginning. The author discourages aspiring writers from adopting her approach because it makes editing unnecessarily difficult.

That said, the method works for her. Or, at the very least, it has yet to disappoint her. Natasha does not write in silence. But that doesn’t mean she listens to music. It’s a distraction. If she tried to write with music in the background, she would inevitably write the lyrics. She prefers to play low-budget Netflix thrillers and horrors. She also favors shows like ‘Criminal Minds.’

As far as her genre of choice is concerned, Natasha jumps back and forth between romance and thrillers. She typically rejects interview questions that compel her to choose between the two because she loves them both.

Neither genre is superior to the other. They each scratch a different itch for her. She uses romance as a palette cleanser after writing creepy thrillers. And then, after spending so much time in the romance genre and assigning her characters happy endings, she enjoys the change of pace a good thriller provides.

Natasha encourages aspiring authors to emulate her by writing for themselves. Additionally, she wants them to persevere in the face of criticism. They shouldn’t despair simply because someone did not like what they wrote. After all, people’s preferences differ. They shouldn’t expect a positive reception from every reader.

Best Natasha Preston Books

The bestseller has nothing but good things to say about her partner. She credits his love and patience for driving her to succeed in publishing. Natasha’s best books include:

The Cellar: Summer was hopeful. When Clover kidnapped her, she thought her friends, family, and the police would come to her rescue. But then the weeks passed and she was forced to reach a haunting conclusion. She was on her own. Fortunately, she wasn’t alone.

Clover was a disturbed fellow with a painful past. To his warped mind, Summer and the other girls were his family, flowers to be protected and nurtured, not victims.

A naive soul would have deluded themselves into thinking they were safe. But Summer knew better. She understood that flowers had expiration dates. You could only keep them in the dark for so long before they wilted and you disposed of them.

Silence: Cole Benson thought Oakley Farrell was perfect. He was alone in that assessment. The others couldn’t understand why she had stopped talking at the age of five. They refused to embrace her habit of communicating through physical gestures.

So they bullied her. Cole stood by Oakley, and as the years passed, their friendship grew into something special.

However, things are about to change. Oakley and Cole’s relationship is on the cusp of morphing into something new. Will their friendship survive the development? What about Oakley? What hope does she have of holding onto her secret now that someone from her past has surfaced?
