Critics have compared Ruth to Agatha Christie, and for a good reason. The author has admitted to being influenced by legends like Christie. The comparisons were encouraged by the first two novels in Ruth’s bibliography.

The books are murder mysteries that trap their protagonists in a dangerous environment. Agatha Christie utilized similar storytelling tools. She also spent her novels slowly raising the sense of paranoia in her characters, another technique readers can find in Ruth Ware’s books.

She places a lot of emphasis on her settings because the sense of isolation they create heightens the dread.

The author spent several years honing her craft. Ruth was eight when her mother enrolled in a typing course. The development served the author’s purposes because her mother had a typewriter that she could use to type out the short stories she occasionally scribbled.

Ruth continued to write throughout her high school years, keeping all the sheets in a ring binder. But her stories never saw the light of day. She was too shy to share them with anyone other than her best friend.

Ruth kept the sheets under her bed to keep other people from accidentally stumbling upon her work. The author’s foray into the book industry did not help her.

She was in her twenties, and she spent her apprenticeship looking at the amazing stories award-winning writers had penned. Ruth couldn’t compete, or so she told herself. Bookstores did not have room for her novels, not when they housed so many incredible masterpieces.

When she entered her thirties, Ruth came to a realization. Now that she had a husband and children, the author did not have the time to pursue writing as a hobby.

It was taking all her energy to find tiny moments of freedom during the day to write. If her situation continued on the same trajectory, her schedule would become more congested until her hobby disappeared.

If she was still serious about writing, she had to act, which is what Ruth did. She took a leap of faith and submitted her manuscript. She knew the rejections and heartbreaks would come, and she embraced them all despite her trepidation.

Ruth does not have any special formula for success to offer aspiring writers because she doesn’t expect them to face the same obstacles she encountered. The best the author can do is encourage aspiring writers to hang in there.

Best Ruth Ware Books

The author’s name is Ruth Warburton. She adopted ‘Ruth Ware’ after switching from YA to the crime thriller genre. Ruth’s best books include:

The Woman In Cabin 10: Lo was happy. Her magazine expected the journalist to spend a week on a luxury cruise. The cruise lived up to every expectation. Lo loved the food, the cheerful guests, and the plush cabins.

But then the skies turned gray, and everything changed. Lo knew what she saw. It wasn’t a dream. They had thrown a woman overboard. But no one believed her. Why would they? Everyone was accounted for.

The Turn of the Key: Heatherbrae House was a nightmare. The surveillance cameras came as a surprise. The loud music was just as disconcerting. Rowan was promised well-behaved girls, but that was a lie, and it wasn’t the only one.

Besides the handyman, she was the only adult on site for several weeks at a time. She should have known better. The salary the ad promised was too generous for a live-in nanny.

But it was too late. She had told falsehoods to secure the job. Even worse, what she had done to the children was inappropriate. But that did not mean she deserved to rot in jail. They kept accusing her of murder, but they were wrong. They had no idea what had actually transpired at the house.

When Does The Next Ruth Ware book come out?
