Sabrina Jeffries is a bestselling and award-winning author that has written over 50 novels using her name and two additional pen names. Sabrina had an interesting childhood that she blames for sparking her passion for reading and writing. She was just seven years old when her parents’ missionary work took them to Thailand.

Life in Thailand was exciting. Sabrina remembers playing in the rain forest and running away from elephants. However, because the author’s siblings were her only source of companionship, she had a lot of free time on her hands. She spent it reading. Sabrina tried a little bit of everything, including classic literature and comic books. But romance was her favorite.

By the time she was 12, Sabrina had already started creating her own stories. She did not choose to prioritize romance. It came naturally to her. Every story that Sabrina wrote had a romantic element. Though, at the time, she hadn’t necessarily decided that she wanted to pursue a career in publishing.

In the years that followed, Sabrina dedicated her time and resources to her education, eventually attaining a Ph.D. in English Literature. Her foray into publishing was unexpected. The author was working at Tulane University. She was trying to experiment with scholarly work but she was bored.

So she started writing fiction, specifically romance. It did not take Sabrina long to realize that teaching wasn’t quite as fulfilling as writing romance. So she abandoned her academic endeavors to become a technical writer. Sabrina spent her nights writing novels. But her first attempt at publishing ended poorly. She accumulated several rejection letters before Leisure came along and bought her second book.

She went on to write dozens of historical romance and contemporary romance novels as Sabrina Jeffries, Deborah Nicholas, and Deborah Martin. Her publishers made the decision to release her novels under different names. They wanted to make it easier for readers to distinguish between the different styles that Sabrina used to write her novels.

The books she wrote under her real name are sexier and lighter. They are also categorized as historical romance. The Deborah Nicholas books, on the other hand, are paranormal romance. Some of the author’s contemporary fans are unaware of her pen names because she no longer uses them. She prefers to publish under her real name.

She believes that she has grown too much as a writer. She cannot recapture the mindset or the style she used back when she wrote as Deborah Martin and Deborah Nicholas. The only way she would resurrect her old pseudonyms is if she went back and revised all the books published using those pen names.

While Sabrina revises and releases older novels from her bibliography every once in a while, she doesn’t want to make it a habit. She has far too many ideas for new novels that she would like to write. She doesn’t have the time to return to the stories she wrote in the first phase of her career.
