Vanderlaan is lucky because she’s retired. She attended Veterinary school, where she acquired her Ph.D. Additionally, her resume includes a stint on the faculty of Purdue.

Her followers might be surprised to learn about the three decades she spent in the oil industry.

Danna and Vanderlaan met on the internet. Danna, a gun control-loving Canadian, was writing stories for fun and posting them online. When Vanderlann, a Texan, reached out to her to highlight a gun error in her work, Danna did not expect the chance encounter to produce a successful partnership between the two.

The pair started by talking to one another online. Eventually, Vanderlann became a beta reader for Danna. But then Danna noticed that Vanderlann was making so many contributions to her work that it made sense to partner with her.

The authors wrote five manuscripts before finally penning their first published novel. Danna loves her relationship with Vanderlaan. They work very well together. It helps Danna to have a partner to bounce ideas off of.

They will also collaborate on the character development and story planning aspects of each book. Danna does all the writing. Vanderlaan edits her work. Once she sends it back, Danna does the necessary revisions. This process continues until the book is done.

Each player brings a different skill to the Sara Driscoll partnership. Danna is the writer. Vanderlaan excels at editing. Even though they don’t have much in the way of extensive training in English and literature, Vanderlann has a knack for spotting and pointing out the weaknesses in a story.

On a technical level, they rely on Danna’s research lab experience to write the Abbott and Lowell Forensic Mysteries. Because the FBI K-9 series features a dog character in a prominent role, Vanderlann takes the lead because of her experience as a dog trainer and handler.

Their partnership has never wavered. Before selling their first book, the pair created a contract that dissected and explained every aspect of their collaboration, including the tasks each person would do, how they would split the royalties, which person would make the final decisions during a creative disagreement, and more.

At the time, they had no reason to believe that their first book would sell. They concluded that it was easier to agree on the details of the contract early on before money entered the picture. The agreement continues to serve them to this very day.

They encourage aspiring authors to create contracts before entering into partnerships. This is the only way to eliminate misunderstandings.

Best Sara Driscoll Books

Danna and Vanderlaan don’t have problems. Their partnership is rock solid. The only challenge is Danna’s schedule because she has a full-time job. The best books they’ve written as Sara Driscoll include:

Lone Wolf: Meg and Hawk are heroes. As members of an elite K-9 unit, their training saved many lives when a bomb ripped a government building apart. But their work was not over.

Hawk had a talent for sniffing out people, both the dead and the living. But was that enough to stop the bomber threatening to wreak more havoc on Washington, DC?

Meg and Hawk are part of the task force assembled to catch the killer. But their target is a cunning foe, and it will take every skill Meg and Hawk possess to catch him.

Before It’s Too Late: A psychopath left a helpless woman in a coffin, buried somewhere in Washington. Rather than abandoning her to her fate, the abductor reached out to the FBI, providing a series of clues for Meg and Hawk to decipher.

The pair did their best. They unraveled the puzzle. But it was too late. The woman was dead. Unfortunately, the abductor was not done. He took another woman, buried her, and invited the FBI to solve his clues.

Once again, they failed. Meg was growing desperate. She couldn’t afford to add another dead victim to the pile. So, she risked everything by adding her brilliant sister to the team.
