Kinsey developed an interest in the arts at a young age. At one point, he wanted to become a recording engineer. His fascination with the field was sparked when the aspiring percussionist recorded an album with a Youth Orchestra in a Maida Vale BBC Studio.
But the author’s fascination with the written word was much stronger. He remembers discovering ‘The Wind in the Willows’ by Kenneth Grahame and loving it. Later on, when he could read by himself, Kinsey became enamored with Paddington and Agaton Sax.
By the time he entered his teens, the author had become an avid science fiction and thriller consumer. He had a particularly strong affinity for comedy. Initially, Kinsey’s obsession was limited to the many sitcoms, and sketch shows he watched.
Eventually, he read a book of scripts and realized that the funniest moments he had ever seen on TV were crafted by writers. This gave birth to the author’s love for writing.
He would daydream about becoming a comedy writer. But Kinsey had no confidence in his ability to succeed in that field. This mindset did little to slow him down. After returning to university at the age of 23, he bought a word processor and started penning his first novel.
The manuscript never saw the light of day because he never finished it. Kinsey’s pessimistic attitude got in the way. He couldn’t see the point in writing a book that publishers would never accept.
The author continued to experiment with writing for the next two decades until he introduced Lady Hardcastle to his followers. Even though he self-published them, Kinsey wrote those first few stories for himself.
To his surprise, an Amazon Publishing editor reached out and asked him to turn the stories into novels. They came out in 2016, kickstarting the author’s career as a published author.
Kinsey was a serious writer before Amazon Publishing came along. The author spent every holiday putting his ideas on paper. He became even more disciplined once his publishing career took off.
Kinsey’s day officially starts at 10 in the morning. He sits down in his office, reads emails, and then writes roughly 1,200 words. Even though the office is his primary writing spot, he can write anywhere.
In fact, he has done some of his best work on trains and at campsites. Unlike some of his peers, Kinsey has to plan his books before writing them. He admires writers that can just meander their way through a manuscript without prior plotting.
But Kinsey cannot operate that way. He has to create a detailed plan that can guide his writing endeavors.
Best T.E. Kinsey Books
The author makes effective use of the skills he learned during his days as a magazine feature writer. He knows how to produce publishable content within a tight deadline. Kinsey’s best books include:
A Quiet Life In The Country: Lady Hardcastle was in self-imposed retirement. She had no intention of meddling with the affairs of the police, but they gave her no choice. They thought they could solve the mystery of the dead body in the woods, but they were on the wrong trail.
Lady Hardcastle was forced to intervene, and to everyone’s surprise, her understanding of criminal investigations was unrivaled. Joined by Florence, a maid with martial arts expertise, Lady Hardcastle will unravel the web of intrigue surrounding her community.
In The Market For Murder: Lady Hardcastle is back, and once again, trouble is brewing. Any plans she had for a much-deserved rest have gone out the window now that Spencer Caradine has died.
They found the local farmer in a pub, his face in a beef and mushroom pie. Someone murdered him. A killer is out and about. But Lady Hardcastle is not afraid. After all, Florence is watching her back, and she has yet to encounter anyone that can match her maid’s right hook.
Spencer’s friends and family are the obvious suspects. Many of them had plausible reasons to want him dead. But the notion of finding the guilty party in a sea of suspects doesn’t intimidate Lady Hardcastle. She has a way with mysteries.
