William W. Johnstone was an American author who specialized in writing survivalist, western and horror novels. Johnstone was born and spent his childhood in southern Missouri on October 28th, 1938 and was the youngest of his three siblings. His father worked as a minister while his mother served as a school teacher.

At the age of 15, the author quit school and started working in the carnival as a deputy sheriff. In later years he served in the army and upon retiring from the military, he worked as radio broadcasting for one and half decade.

His career in writing began in 1970; however, none of his works was published until the year 1980 when The Devils Kiss was released. Johnstone quit his job and became a full-time writer in 1980, and since then the author wrote almost two hundred books of different genres including; Men’s Adventure, Suspense, Westerns, Post-Apocalyptic, and Horror. The main series publications from the author are Ashes & Eagles, Mountain Man, and The First Mountain Man while his personal favorite book was The Last of the Dog Team published in 1980. The author also published other two novels under pseudonym William Mason.

Johnstone lived for decades in Shreveport, Louisiana, however, died in Knoxville, TN on February 8th, 2004 aged 65years. His death remained unconfirmed for nearly three years, and it was the subject of debate in a forum on his website. No official statements were issued until in 2006 after the Last Gunfighter: Devils Legion was released and on its copyright page indicating that the author had indeed died as someone else selected to continue his legacy.

A stung by yellow jackets that give him “coma” somehow saves him from the nuclear attack on the US. He wakes up only to find himself in the apocalyptic world not knowing the whereabouts of his family, and in his quest to find his family he ends up being the leader of the revolutionary army.

As the greatest rebel enemy (the US government) comes down crushing their dreams, an even worst peril awaits them, indestructible breeds of people.

In summary, Johnstone was a prolific writer, and his legacy remains up to date. His stories were prophetic in a way whether, by sheer coincidence or design, they somehow predicted the social and political climate that exist in the modern world.
