When Ty Hauck is introduced in The Dark Tide, the first book in the series, he is a seemingly ordinary homicide detective operating out of Greenwich in Connecticut. Ty is drawn into Karen Friedman’s life when her husband’s name pops up in a hit-and-run accident that leaves a man dead.

Ty is pretty surprised to learn that Karen’s husband died in a New York City Grand Central Station explosion. When Ty and Karen investigate further, the connection between Karen’s husband and Ty’s case grows, and it isn’t long before they are drawn into a conspiracy with hundreds of millions of dollars at its center.

Ty and Karen must survive a tumultuous journey to find the truth even as sparks ignite between them. Because the Ty Hauck series constitutes numerous novels, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that Ty escapes his first notable escapade with his life.

However, life isn’t quite done messing with him, and it only takes a few turns for the homicide detective to stumble into even more trouble.

And that is the crux of the Ty Hauck series. Ty just cannot steer clear of trouble. Even as a homicide detective, Ty has a tendency to wade into the sort of waters that would leave his colleagues flabbergasted.

While other homicide detectives are too busy running after murderers, Ty somehow ends up wrestling with international terrorists and thwarting plots to sink America’s economy.

Ty is initially introduced as the single father of a teenage daughter who cannot seem to get over a tragedy from his past. As the series progresses, Ty grows. His relationship with people like Karen forces him to move forward.

The protagonist doesn’t have the best track record with women, though. And while some audiences believe that the trait adds to his personality, others find the flaw irritating because it doesn’t allow the Ty Hauck series to develop any persistently present female characters of note.

Each book finds Ty shrugging his previous love off in favor of sleeping with a new woman. Andrew Gross definitely revels in exploring Ty’s flaws. The protagonist has a moral code. He will do what he can to see justice done. But Ty also loves the good life, and he doesn’t stay in law enforcement long, eventually choosing to secure his future by pursuing private security gigs.

This Andrew Gross series has been commended for its fast pace. The books have also been criticized for their silly plots and over the top villains.

Best Ty Hauck Books

Andrew Gross cemented his place in the literary arena via the numerous novels he produced alongside James Patterson, and the Ty Hauck series definitely boasts a hint of the Patterson brand, with some of the best books in the series including:

Reckless: Ty Hauck is a private security investigator with a vendetta. Ty’s friend is dead. If that wasn’t enough, she was murdered alongside her husband and children. But if Ty wants to get to the bottom of the murder, he will require the assistance of Naomi Blum, a determined agent of the Department of Treasury that has what it takes to put all the pieces together.

And the mystery is pretty complex, somehow connected to a wealthy banker predicting doom for the world and a series of massive bank transfers designed to initiate global panic.

One Mile Under: Trey Watkins is dead. Dani Whalen finds his friend’s remains while leading a tour down the rapids outside Aspen, Colorado. Everyone seems all too ready to announce the death an accident but Dani isn’t so certain.

And it doesn’t take her long to find evidence supporting her theory. However, the local police chief isn’t ready to reopen the case. When another body drops, Dani realizes that she must take drastic measures to stop a nefarious entity.

Ty Hauck comes into play when an old friend calls and tells him about the trouble his goddaughter has stumbled into. In trying to investigate the situation, Ty is pitted against powerful energy companies.
